How the estimate works
The calculator starts with simple, adjustable assumptions: 35GB for a larger digital game, 8GB for a smaller game, your own screenshot or clip estimate, and a free-space reserve. It then maps the total to internal storage, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB microSD Express.
This is intentionally conservative. Store page download sizes, updates, DLC, and game-key card behavior can change the real number. If you already know the exact games you want to install, replace the defaults with your own list size.
What this calculator does not assume
It does not assume that regular microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC, UHS-I, UHS-II, A1, or A2 labels are enough for Switch 2 game storage. For games, the product page should clearly say microSD Express or show the EX mark.
It also does not count save data as card storage. Nintendo's support FAQ says Switch 2 save data is stored in system memory and cannot be saved or copied to a microSD Express card.

Is 256GB enough for Nintendo Switch 2?
It can be enough if you mostly buy physical games and uninstall downloads you no longer play. Digital libraries, updates, DLC, screenshots, and clips make extra storage useful quickly.
Is 512GB enough for Switch 2?
For many mixed-library players, 512GB is the practical first card size. Mostly digital players should compare the 512GB and 1TB price gap before buying.
Can I use my old Switch microSD card?
Nintendo says old Nintendo Switch microSD cards can be used to load captured screenshots and videos on Switch 2, but not to save or load Switch 2 digital games or save data.
